Katie McBean

Katie McBean began studying the viola at age 14 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. In her decade as a violist, she has performed across the country excelling in both music festivals and competitions, including the NAC Young Artists program, Scotiafest, Northern Lights Bluegrass Festival, London Kiwanis Rose Bowl, London Music Scholarship Foundation, Saskatchewan Provincial Music Festival, and the National CMFC Festival.

In addition to her solo career, Katie is passionate about chamber and orchestral performance. She attended the National Youth Orchestra for three consecutive summers (2007-2009), and has been employed as a violist for the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra (2006-2012), Orchestra London, and now London Symphonia. She also performs with the new Rebelheart Collective, the Western Viola Ensemble lead by Sharon Wei, and the Magisterra Soloists, all chamber ensembles based in London Ontario.

Katie has graduated with concurrent Western University degrees in French Literature and Music Education. While attending Western, she studied with acclaimed violist. Sharon Wei. During her professional career in Saskatoon, Katie coached the Youth Orchestra viola section, while helping develop an audition rehearsal program for students hoping to study music in University. In London, Katie works as the viola ensemble and senior orchestra coach at Forest City Talent Education, is a supply teacher at Preschool of the Arts, and is a guest coach for high school orchestras across the city. Currently, she is attending Teachers College in Buffalo in order to gain more insight into the teaching process.
